| Tips on improving your credit score
Your credit score influences many areas of your life. A prospective employer will check your credit when considering you for employment. Your insurance agent may check your credit when deciding to insure your car or home. Your lender, whether for a home loan or other consumer debt, will check your credit score when making a determination. Your credit report shows the history of your borrowing activities as they have been reported to the credit reporting bureaus (TransUnion, Experian and Equifax) by lenders, court records and others at a point in time. The credit score helps credit grantors to evaluate this information quickly because it gives a snapshot of your payment history. Thousands of credit grantors send updates to the bureaus -- usually once a month. These updates include balances, monthly payment amounts and whether there have been late payments.
(AFX UK Focus) 2007-11-20 10:10 GMT: Asian stocks recover worst losses on report Fed upbeat on US economy - UPDATE
SINGAPORE (Thomson Financial) - (Adds closing levels) Stock markets across Asia recouped most of their early losses in late trade Tuesday, led by Japan after a press report said the US Federal Reserve will publish upbeat economic forecasts for the US when it releases the minutes from its October meeting later today. The Fed will indicate it expects the US economy to pull through the current rough patch and regain strength in 2008, the FT reported on its website. The report will show that policymakers are much more optimistic than financial markets and may challenge expectations of further rate cuts, said the paper. "Optimism here towards the US economy in addition to rumours of an emergency Fed meeting, also heard in late New York trading, resulted in a major rally on the TSE," said Haruya Ida, analyst at Thomson IFR in Tokyo.
Hanover Capital Mortgage Holdings Announces 2007 Third Quarter Results and Decision Not to Declare a Dividend
EDISON, N.J., Nov. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Hanover Capital Mortgage Holdings, (Nachrichten) Inc. (the "Company" or "HCM") reported a net loss for the quarter ended September 30, 2007 of $31.7 million, or $(3.83) per share on a fully diluted basis. The Board of Directors did not declare a third quarter dividend. For the three months ended September 30, 2007, the Company experienced a net loss of $31.7 million compared to net income of $0.1 million for the same period of 2006. This decrease is primarily due to impairment expense of $30.2 million for other than temporary declines in fair value of the Company's subordinate mortgage-backed securities ("Subordinate MBS") and a $1.5 million decrease in net interest income on its Subordinate MBS portfolio. The decrease in net interest income is a result of the increased financing costs associated with a new fixed-term financing facility the Company established in August of 2007.
Nils Pratley: BarCap looks jaunty enough
For Barclays' investors, the knowledge that there is no black hole in the investment banking division will probably be good enough for now. A net write-down of £1.3bn at Barclays Capital was a reasonable result after the lurid rumours. The hit is painful, but in the context of a banking group worth £35bn, even after the falls in the share price, it's bearable. Bob Diamond and his crew have proved they are not naive newcomers to Wall Street's jungle. They took out some well-judged hedging positions in August and October, and seem to have cleansed the books of a decent quantity of sub-prime assets earlier in the year. In leveraged finance - the debt that funded the private equity boom - Barclays appears extremely confident about the quality of the stuff it is holding.
